Game 7 v Southern Californian U'17

Another beautiful day greeted us as we headed out to Woodley Fields for our last game of the tour. We lost the toss (again!) and was asked to bowl. A very consistent effort saw us restrict the home side to 170 in 32 overs. The match had been shortened as we had to travel to the other side of LA for the Angels baseball game that night. In reply, we put in our best batting performance to pass the target in the 23rd over with 2 wickets down. A very satisfying result to finish the cricket game component of the tour. Following this we made our way to Anaheim to see the LA Angels play the Houston Astros in the American League baseball.
See below for a photo of our reliable scorers Donna & Cathy in action and a line up we had before the game where we sang our respective national anthems in honour of America's independence day (July 4th) tomorrow.

Game 6 v Southern Californian junior representative team

After breakfast we headed to Woodley Fields for our game. It was only a 10 minute trip to the vast expanses of the Balbao recreation area. Besides 4 cricket grounds, there was a nature reserve, archery field, golf course, botanical garden amongst other things making it the largest recreation area in the USA! Dyson, our captain lost the toss and we were asked to bowl. We ended up bowling them out for 214 in the 38th over. We were confident in chasing the total and made a good fist of it. In the end we just fell short at 8/195.
As a photo suggests below, we had a chance to meet a local.

Game 5 v Combermere school

We were expecting a tough game today against the best cricket school in Barbados. We won the toss and batted. After a slow start, the middle ordered consolidated and we posted a respectable 165. During the lunch break the heavens opened up and the ground copped a drenching. So much so, the game unfortunately had to be cancelled. Back to our accommodation for a short rest and dinner together.

Test Match: West Indies v NZ

A very exciting day for the group as we ventured to Kensington Oval in Bridgetown for the 3rd days play. Although only a small crowd, the atmosphere was electric, particularly when there was anything positive accomplished by the home team. Extremely lucky to meet current player Jason Holder and legends Curtley Ambrose & Courtney Walsh. After play we headed into Bridgetown to enjoy the Crop Over festival.

Game 4 v's St Phillip

A 20 minute drive North East from our accomodation took us to the Parish of St Phillip. The boys were ready to perform well and didn't disappoint. After losing the toss and bowling, we picked up two early wickets and had them under pressure. We kept this up until the rain (yes rain!) put proceedings to a halt, with the home team posting 118 in 23 overs.
This seemed like a very get table total and we started very well. However, the rain continued to fall which made the conditions very difficult to both bat and bowl. It came down to the last over where we required 6 runs to win. Unfortunately, we fell agonizingly close with 115. Some real positives to take from today though. Looking forward to seeing the West Indies v NZ test match tomorrow.

Game 3: V St. Leonard's School

Playing again at Dover we lost the toss on a good hard deck and were asked to bowl. The Wanderers were unable to bowl in consistent areas to challenge these attacking batsmen. St Leonard's scored a formidable 354 for 9 off their 40 overs ( James Fitzpatrick took 3 wickets with some good offspin.) The Wanderers were tied down from the start and limped to 158 for 9. A tough day . A nice relaxing swim back at Butterfly followed by dinner at St. Lawrence Gap.

Game 2 v's Passage United

We batted first on a good track. Passage set very good fields and bowled well to them. Our boys grew frustrated and played too many rash shots to be all out for 185. Our Barbadian player Odin was a most welcome member of our team.
In reply, Passage began very well, with Shaq who scored quite freely in posting a half century. Our boys toiled hard to have them 8 wickets down when they passed our score. We live to fight another day.
Highlights:1) Two females representing Passage-Hayley who bowls off spin and Shaq who is also an off spinner and bat. She is also a member of the West Indian women's cricket team.
2) Legend West Indian cricketer Big Bird Joel Garner popped in for 10 minutes to say G'dad!

Game 1 v's Dover U'16

After a heavy downpour overnight, the heat of the morning sun dried out the pitch for a perfect day of cricket. Our captain James won the toss and decided to have a bowl. The bowlers toiled hard but a strong partnership in the middle of the innings gave a nice launch pad for a large total (317) to chase.
We started well and were looking good at the halfway mark, but couldn't capitalize and ended up falling just over 100 runs short.
It was a fair effort to start, particularly getting used to the local conditions and pitches. Hopefully with better fielding and being smarter with our run accumulation, better performances will follow.
See photos of Austin cover driving, Adam hitting over mid wicket, the game , the teams and James presenting the best player award.

Day 1 in Barbados

After getting in late Sat night, the group was very tired.
Due to the humidity, most were up early for a relaxing swim in the crystal blue waters of Butterfly beach (which our hotel backs on to).
Had a short sharp training session at Dover ground where we will be playing tomorrow. Some lads a little rusty initially, but quickly acclimitized to the slower wicket.
Back for a swim later in the afternoon before heading out to Oistins fish market for a dinner feast.
Early to bed for our first game tomorrow. An impromptu soccer game with some of the locals was a highlight of the night. Let us just say that the performance by our boys vindicated our early exit from the World Cup!
