Surf n Ski Day 12 - Los Angeles

After a well earned sleep in today (after our epic Disney day) we headed to the Citadel Putlet Mall to satisfy our need for retail therapy. Nike, Adidas, Converse and Polo were big favourites as we nearly cleaned the stores out.

From here we headed to Groffith Observatory which was unfortunately closed so we settled for a walk through Griffith Park for great views of downtown LA and the Hollywood sign.

then it was off to Hollywood Boulevard for a look at the Dolby Theatre (home of the academy awards), Graumans Chinese Theatre and its many handprints of Hollywood stars and the famous "Walk of Fame". From here it was a quick trip down Sunset Blvd. to Beverly Hills and a quick walk down Rodeo Drive.

Then it was time for one of our highlights, an LA Clippers NBA game at Staples Centre. Great entertainment followed by a Clippers win satisfied our appetite for pro sports.

Surf n Ski Day 10 - Disneyland

After a day of travelling yesterday we arrived in LA and transmitted to Anaheim for good nights sleep in preparation for a massive day at Disneyland. An early start saw us enter the park the moment it opened and pose for a group photo in front of the Disney Railway.

From here we headed all together to ride the Star Tours and Space Mountain rides together which was great.

A quick stop to grab a pass to see the nightly world of colour show and then everyone headed off for a day full of rides, encounters with Disney characters and fun in what is correctly referred to as "the happiest place on earth".

At the end of the day we witnessed an amazing sound, light and water show at Disneys Colour of Magic Show. After this we headed back for a last couple of rides before our 15 hour day came to an end. An amazing day for all of us!

Surf n Ski Day 8 - Apex Mountain

Well, our time at Apex Mountain is over and we sadly waved goodbye to our hosts this afternoon.

image.jpg

This morning we enjoyed our last breakfast with Chad and Chefy at the Edge Bistro before heading up the mountain to ski all together down the 5km long Grandfathers Trail. It was great to see how far everyone has come since we arrived last weekend.

After lunch many went out for a last hoot down our favourite runs while others chose to chill or go and watch some local hockey on the outdoor rink.

At 3.30 we all boarded the bus and started the long journey ball to Vancouver where have just checked into our hotel before flying to Los Angeles tomorrow. We are all really excited about the next few days as we head to the USA.

Surf n Ski Day 6 & 7 - Apex Mountain

Two more days of lessons and skiing all that Apex has to offer. Today we completed the last of our lessons with the wonderful instructors here at Apex Mountain Resort. We have all learnt so much and are incredibly grateful for the help they have given us.

After lunch we enjoyed some time on the tubing course. Essentially sliding down a giant slide in inflated car tubes in groups of up to 5 people. Lots of fun was had by all. This was followed by a little more skiing and snowboarding before our last dinner at The Edge Bistro.

After dinner we headed over to the Apex Adventure Skating Loop.  There were a great many thrills and spills as the group skated around a frozen trail through the woods. Several of our group then went out to watch a game of ice hockey being played on the outdoor rink when we returned to our hotel.

Another huge day for us and we are a little sad that tomorrow is our last day here before we head south.

Surf n Ski Day 5 - Apex Mountain

Super cold day here at Apex today. Kids experienced minus 30 with windchill today but were incredibly resilient. Everyone has improved so much with everyone riding a chair lift today (many for the first time). There was a great deal of laughter at the top with a many stacks as people slid of the lift.

Many kids have explored a great deal more terrain at this stage with everyone ready to explore more tomorrow. Lessons have been awesome and we are looking forward to two more days of terrific improvement.

Tonight we had movie night and what could be more appropriate than that classic winter sport movie "The Mighty Ducks". More great days ahead so stay tuned.

Surf n Ski Day 3 & 4 - Apex Mountain

After an uneventful day yesterday where we travelled 6 hours by bus from Vancouver to Apex Mountain we spent a little time looking around the village before collecting our ski gear and heading to The Edge Bistro for the first of our meals here at the resort.

After good nights sleep we headed out for our first lessons and first experience on Canadian snow. Our newbies started on the "bunny slope" but improved so rapidly they will soon be exploring the whole mountain.

Our more experienced skiers and boarders spent their lesson refining their skills and checking out some fresh powder snow.

After lunch we all headed out to continue to learn and explore. We all can't wait to get out and see some more terrain and test our newly developed skill.

After another wonderful dinner we all went to the games room to play a team bonding game all about exposing each other lies. The group are getting along famously and many new friendships are being formed.

Surf n Ski Day 2 - Vancouver

Another great (cold) day in Vancouver. We started out catching public transport down to check out the ski shops for last minute equipment requirements.

From here we wandered around to the market district of Granville Island for lunch and a look around the fresh food market, craft stalls, artist studios and the children's market. After filling our bellies we headed back to the bus to pop into a couple more Ali shops before making our way to the Vancouver Curling Club at the venue of the 2010 Winter Olympics.

A great deal of fun was had by all both as a result of playing an enjoyable and new game for most of us and also from watching each other slip and fall many, many times. With a great deal of help from our coaches, Ted and Varol our skills improved in a very short time.

A quick ride on the subway back to downtown before dinner and some last minute shopping before heading back to our hotel. Long trip up the Okanagan Valley tomorrow to Apex Mountain Resort which will be our home for the rest of the week.

Surf n Ski Day 1 - Vancouver

After a long day of travelling yesterday followed by a bit of a wall around downtown Vancouver and dinner we retires for an early

night yesterday.

Today we were greeted with snow in Vancouver as we started off with a walk to Gastown. Gastown is the oldest part of Vancouver and is home to many exclusive boutiques, souvenir shops and art galleries. It is also the home of the world famous Steam Clock, the first of its kind in the world.

From here we walked past Canada Place and its Orca Sculpture and on to Stanley Park. There we saw, squirrels, the girl in a wetsuit sculpture and a number of First Nations totem poles. after a lot of walking we caught a public bus back to our hotel where we were picked up and driven to Grouse Mountain.

After a ride up the Skyride gondola which carries around 50 people at a time the group got involved in a range of activities including ice skating, sledding and sleigh rides. Lots of fun was had by all and after dinner atop the mountain and a ride down the Skyride we headed back to our hotel for a well earned sleep. Tomorrow promises to be another big day.
