Update 4 - Limerick

Sat 1/10/11
Some of the group woke early to watch the AFL Grand in the hotel at 5.30am. After watching Geelong win we had breakfast then on the road to Co. Limerick and meet our next hosts Monaleen.
Wow!! A great reception we received, meeting at Morrisons pub for lunch of vege soup and sandwiches, then the boys left with their hosts for some time with the families and the staff and adults checked in at the Kilmurry Lodge.
We all met at the Monaleen ground for the match at 4pm. Wanderers lost the first three quarters using the round ball and won the fourth with the AFL Sherrin, but lost the match overall 57-51. It was a great game enjoyed by all, although there was light rain throughout the match. At the conclusion the hosts took all players and adults back to their homes for showers and a meal - the hospitality was nothing short of fantastic. We all met back at the club at 7.30pm for post match celebrations. Our captain for the match, Brayden Grimmond presented Monaleen with gifts and our boys also received Monaleen souvenirs. We were treated to irish music and singing (with a couple of added in Aussie songs).

Sun 2/10/11
On Sunday morning we met back at Monaleen club to collect the boys and were able to watch some of a junior girls comogie (hurling) match. Michael Sheehan from the Monaleen club was able to arrange for us to visit Thomond Park Stadium, the home of Munster Rugby, we were taken through the changerooms and into the stadium - a great unplanned experience. Added to that Michael arranged for us to then see the Limerick Gaelic Grounds (where Australian played Ireland in the International Rules match last year, again going right into the rooms and stadium. Michael O'Riordan the secretary of Limerick County Board made a phone call and was able to get us in to see the County quarter final match when we arrived in Tralee later in the day at no cost. Then on the road for Tralee, Co. Kerry. After checking in to the hotel we walked to the match between East Kerry and Dingle. A great opportunity for the group to see a game of this standard. While these added complimentary tours changed our itinerary for the day, we all greatly appreciated the opportunity.
